Here at natracanna we really value our physical health but we also recognize that our mental health is equally important.
Post traumatic stress disorder(PTSD) has received a lot of attention in recent years, and especially in relation to veterans that have served on combat tours overseas. Awareness is growing about the serious impact that this can have, which can continue long after the trauma has taken place. It is an illness that also tends to affect not only the individual but all of the people close to them as well.
James, one of the founding team members of natracanna, served in the infantry for the british army. During his time served he did a tour of afghanistan alongside his friends. This experience had a profound effect on him as you would expect, although James has many friends who are still struggling to manage these issues, sadly there are a number who are no longer with us today.
The effects of PTSD can be highly impactful to daily life. For example, experiencing high anxiety, even in everyday situations, insomnia, vivid dreams or nightmares, lack of appetite and motivation.
For those who suffer with PTSD or any of the symptoms that we have listed, first of all we would highly recommend that everybody does as much research as possible in regards to anything CBD or cannabis related. Studies have shown that the use of cannabis or CBD activates cannabinoid receptors in the body.It has also been shown that people with PTSD have lower levels anandamide, a neurotransmitter which also happens to be one of the body's primary endocannabinoids. Anandamide is an important neurotransmitter for promoting happiness, pleasure and memory.
James and his friends have found a massive personal benefit whilst using cannabis and CBD, we will be bringing out a part 2 of this blog which will contain more details about there personal journey and experiences with cannabis.
