What is CBD oil? Cannabidiol? What are Cannabinoids? Where does CBD Oil come from? What does CBD oil do? And what are Terpenes for that matter?!
The term CBD is everywhere lately with interest still growing in CBD oils and a myriad of related products from CBD gummies to CBD beard oil and many more unusual variations besides!
CBD actually refers to something pretty specific, so we are going to try and give it some simple context in this article.
So - starting with the basics - CBD is a really handy abbreviation for the word Cannabidiol.
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a name that identifies one particular type of Cannabinoid.
The term Cannabinoids refers to a large group of chemical compounds that can be broken down into 3 smaller subsections: phytocannabinoids, endocannabinoids and synthetic cannabinoids.
Phytocannabinoids are of the most relevance to us today; they refer to compounds which are only found in nature and are derived from the Cannabis plant, also known as Hemp, or the botanical name of Cannabis Sativa L. We don’t mind which names are used, but we want people to understand that they are all referring to the same thing; and that if you buy a product labelled as hemp, that it is still from the Cannabis plant.
Natracanna CBD oils are full spectrum extracts, which simply means that they are whole plant extracts. This is a really great thing because it means that the product will contain many cannabinoids beyond CBD, as well as other constituent parts of the plant. These other parts include Terpenes (these are responsible for giving individual plants their unique smells, flavours and effects) as well as vitamins, fatty acids, protein and more.
Endocannabinoids are also of interest because they are a type of cannabinoid naturally produced by every human and in fact, by almost every animal on the planet as well. Endocannabinoids join with cannabinoid receptors to form the endocannabinoid system. This system is involved in multiple processes within the body that include pain perception, motor learning, appetite and mood.
Synthetic Cannabinoids have been created in a laboratory for the purpose of doing scientific research on Cannabinoids.
Natracanna CBD oils contain only Cannabinoids from plants that are organically grown in a natural way, never with use of pesticides or chemicals. Our oils contain only CBD extract (plus the many naturally occurring additional cannabinoids we’ve discussed) and a carrier oil which is hemp seed oil. Proportions of these oils change with the different strengths we offer. Check out our shop page for Natracanna CBD Oils ranging from 2.5% all the way up to 18% strengths.
Effects of CBD are unique to each individual, in the same way that the results of diet, exercise or supplementation protocols vary from person to person and will depend on their body type, size, lifestyle and many more factors besides. CBD vendors also have to be careful about claiming particular benefits for legal reasons.
That said; there is growing interest and research in this area, both scientific and anecdotal, which we encourage people to seek out in order to make up their own minds about CBD. Search Google for research, articles and videos about how CBD may help you specifically and look for personal accounts from others who have used it for similar purposes to the ones that you are interested in.
